1. Briefings for Executives -- Leadership Team -- Directors/Trustees
-
As with all organizational change initiatives, there can be only limited success until senior leadership acknowledges that there is a problem and wants a solution. The most successful anti-bullying campaigns were launched by CEOs. There must be cooperation in the executive suites, at the very least.
Briefings provide an introduction to Workplace Bullying and its negative fiscal and productivity impact on the organization. The 60-90 min. presentations by the widely regarded national authority on the topic challenges those responsible for the long-term viability of the company or agency to uncover what has been shielded from them by subordinates. As a result, bullying moves from being an "undiscussable" topic to a recognized problem that warrants solutions. And after Blueprint is successfully implemented, Work Doctor, because of its stature as the premier bullying consulting firm, can generate positive local and national media attention, if desired.
2. Introduction to Workplace Bullying -- Awareness-Raising Speeches
-
A 90 min. session for audiences of managers or staff delivered by the award-winning presenter, the North American expert on Workplace Bullying.
Topics include: (a) Definitions and description of the phenomenon, (b) International roots (c) Research-driven profiles of the principal players -- Who Bullies & Who Gets Bullied, the witnesses, (d) The effects of uncurbed stress on the organization and its people, (e) Solutions outlined: Personal and Organizational, and (f) The changing Legal landscape. Presentations are always tailored to the specific needs of audiences addressed.
You can view a sample presentation by Dr. Gary Namie in the Speeches section.
3. Organizational Climate Assessment -- Qualitative Audit
-
Our team interviews designated individuals or volunteers in private sessions to determine the prevalence, manner, history and consequences for, bullying in the Client organization. We gain a sense of the broader context as well as specific illustrations of incidents. Note: this is not psychological assessment, diagnosis or treatment -- it is a review of business processes and their impact on people and the organization. See the Legal Disclaimer.
The qualitative information gathered establishes the context for introducing the anti-bullying initiative. Work Doctor interviewers cull information unavailable to traditional management consultants. Our unmatched expertise in bullying encourages candid participation. In return, we require that everyone be guaranteed freedom from retaliation.
4. Prevalence Surveys -- Quantitative Analyses
-
Obtain a quantitative snapshot of the prevalence of bullying in your organization, and, if present, who are the perpetrators and targets, and what perceptions of its impact are held by employees at any or all levels. We are veteran survey designers and university instructors of research methodologies. Clients can poll every employee or sample representative smaller groups. Clients choose measures from a battery of items used in surveys the results of which are disseminated nationally. Pre-initiative scores can be compared to post-implementation scores to gauge efficacy of the Blueprint Program. The Survey service includes sampling assistance, survey instruments, statistical analyses, and an interpretive report of the results for each survey administered.
5. Respectful Conduct Clinic™ : The Work Doctor's Corrective Intervention
-
Often we are called in to ameliorate a crisis. An over-the-top aggressive individual has gutted the organization's productivity and morale. Sometimes, a short-term fix is what is required. The individual must be dealt with quickly, in advance of creating a policy. That is what the Respectful Conduct Clinic does.
For some Clients, the Respectful Conduct Clinic intervention is requested after the new anti-bullying Policy is in place and individuals are confirmed violators. The Blueprint for a Bullying-Free Workplace is not a zero tolerance program. Violators deserve a chance to comply with the new Policy. In the Clinic, typically run off-site for confidentiality and efficacy, offenders are re-focused to subordinate, and thereby align, their personal agendas to the needs of the organization. They are made aware of the negative consequences of their actions.
The unique Intervention consists of: Diagnostic instrument scoring; Feedback based on interviews of affected people and self-report data; Coaching of specific skills and consequences; Change-Contingent Contracting; and Conduct Monitoring to ensure compliance with the new Policy (or its principles if a policy is not yet created).
This is an intensive, 2-day corrective intervention by the experts, not vacation or "communications training." Requests for this service should ideally come from an executive authorized to compel compliance with the redirection mandate.
